Can you scan my photographs?
Yes, we can scan your prints - up to 8.5" x
11". If your photo is in a frame, please make sure to
remove it from the frame before you send it to us. We
cannot scan photos that are in a frame or take the frame
apart.
Can you handle digital photos?
Absolutely! We prefer digital photos.
Your digital photos should have been taken with at least a 3
megapixel camera and saved as JPG or TIFF files. Make sure
to send us the original file, and NOT a file that has been
shrunk, compressed, or downsampled to fit in an email or on a
web page. (These small files are great for emailing around
and posting on web pages, but they do not work well for
producing high-quality prints).
Can you scan my film and slides?
Yes, we can scan negative film, positive
film, and slides. We accept the following types of
film (in both color or black & white):
- 35mm negatives
- 35mm slides
- medium format film (up to 6x12cm)
I'm not a professional photographer - will my photos look good in my book?
Of course! Your photos look good to YOU.
That's all that matters.
I have both prints and negatives. Which should I send?
We prefer film. Scanned film actually
produces the best prints. However, sometimes the film
isn't in great shape (very dusty, lots of fingerprints,
scratches, etc). So, if you send both your prints and
negatives, we'll pick the one that gives the best results.
If you want to pick between the two, please send the film.
How many photos should I send?
The PetLife Photo Book comes with 20 pages
of images. ( Please see
the samples page.) We use the first page for a cover
page, and the last page as a "Story Of My Pet" page. That
leaves 18 pages. We find that 1-3 photos per page gives the
book a clean, uncluttered look. Some of the pages will have a
single photo blown up to the entire size of the page. Some
pages will have 2-4 photos on it. We find that the books
usually end up using 45-55 photos for best results.
You should send us a total of 60 photos to give us a good
selection to pick from. (Some of them may be out of focus, and
some may just not scan well.)
I really love a couple of photos, can I make sure they're used?
Absolutely! If you want to make sure
that we use one or more particular photos in your book, please
indicate that on the Order Form.
Also, if you really want us to use a particular photo on the
Title Page (and on the cover of the dust jacket), on the last
page, or anywhere else, please let us know. If you want a group
of photos to appear together, please let us know.
We really want you to love your PetLife Photo Book, so we
welcome your requests!
Can I put poetry or other inspirational
words in my book?
Of course. These words mean so much.
Please type up anything you'd like to have in your book and put
it on the Order Form. If you need lots of room, please
type it up and staple the page to your Order Form. Also
make sure to email us the files or burn them to a CD and include
them with your order.
Can I specify a title for my book?
Yes. On the order form, you specify the
title of your book. The title can be two lines up to 24
characters per line. The 2-line title will appear on the
first page of the book. If you order a cover stamp, the
2-line title be stamped on the cover of the book. If you
order a dust jacket, the two line title will appear on the front
of the dust jacket and on the spine.
What will be on the First Page of my book?
On the First Page of your book, we usually
put a large photo of your pet, the 2-line title, and the Month
and Year the book was printed. If you have lots of
pets in your book (we LOVE doing Family Books), we'll try to get
them all on the first page. For an example,
please see
the samples page. If you have a special request for
your First Page, please let us know on the Order Form.
What will be on the Last Page of my book?
We like to put the Story Of My Pet on the
last page, with a large photo of your pet. For an example,
please see
the samples page. If you have a special request
for your Last Page, please let us know on the Order Form.
What does the Dust Jacket look like?
The dust jacket is really a beautiful,
photographic quality print that protects the cover of your book.
The front of it will be very similar to the First Page, and the
back of the dust jacket will be very similar to the Last Page.
The inside flaps will normally be left blank - if you'd like
some text on the inside flaps, please let us know and supply the
text on the Order Form. The spine of your book will have
the title and Month/Year that the book was printed. If you
have a special request for any part of your Dust Jacket, please
let us know on the Order Form.
What is the Story Of Your Pet?
Well, it's the Story Of Your Pet! Write
a few paragraphs about your pets life. How did he/she come to
you? What are the wonderful things you've done with him/her? What does he/she mean to you
and your family? If you prefer to not have a
story, we can put a large photo of your pet on the Last Page
(and on the back of the Dust Jacket). If you are doing a
Family Book, and have lots of pets (like we do), you can do a
short story of each pet - we'll find a way to fit it in.
Can I email or upload my digital photos to you?
Not yet. For now, we're asking you to
burn your digital photos to a CD or DVD and send them to us with
your Order Form. We're working on getting our website to
the point where we can accept uploaded files, but this will take
a while. However, we ask you to email us your Order Form
and any extra files of text that you'd like included in your
book.
How do I ship everything to you?
We ask you to carefully and securely pack
your prints, negatives, slides, CD/DVDs, your Order Form and
Payment in a small box or large padded envelope. Send
everything to one of the following addresses:
If you are shipping by
US Postal
Service
DoubleShot Studio
P.O. Box 7042
Gaithersburg, MD 20898 |
If you are shipping by
FedEx or
UPS
DoubleShot Studio
19928 Chesley Knoll Dr.
Gaithersburg, MD 20879 |
Make sure to ship with a method that provides a tracking number. We
encourage you to email us the tracking number so we can track your
package. The email address is
PetLife@DoubleShotStudio.com.
Although we
will take the greatest of care with your items, we cannot be
responsible for loss or damage to your photos or property
By sending your materials to DoubleShot Studio, you
acknowledge this and agree to hold DoubleShot Studio, and it’s
assignees harmless.
Why are there two addresses?
We're a very small company and we prefer to receive packages in our P.O. Box.
Unfortunately, FedEx and UPS
will not deliver to a P.O. Box, so we ask people shipping
through FedEx and UPS to send their packages to our studio.
How are my items shipped back to me?
We will hold your items (your prints,
negatives, slides, CDs/DVDs, etc) until your book
is printed. When it is complete, we will pack the book and
all your items securely in a small box, ship
everything to you, and immediately send you a tracking
number so you know that your order is on its way.
What forms of payment do you accept?
We accept checks, money orders, and credit
cards. If you would like to pay by check or money order,
please include it when you send your photos.
If you would like to pay by credit card, please fill in your
credit card information on the Order Form. We ask you to
fill out the Order Form in Adobe Acrobat and email it back to us
AND mail a printed copy with your photos. If you are
paying by credit card, please do not type your card number into
Adobe Acrobat - we do not want your credit card information
coming to us by email. Write it in on the printed copy of
the Order Form and include it with your photos.
Why do I need to email the Order Form AND mail it too?
We require you to email the Order Form to us
because we will use the text you've typed into the Order Form in
your book. We will copy and paste the titles, The Story Of
Your Pet, and any other text from the emailed copy of the Order
Form right into your book. The eliminates any typos that
we might introduce. (We'll read everything and check for
your typos.)
We ask you to mail the Order Form with your photos so that we
can match everything up. Also, if you are paying by credit
card, we don't want you sending your card number by email, so we
ask you to hand write it on the Order Form.
What if I have other questions?
We would be happy to answer all your
questions! Just email us at
PetLife@DoubleShotStudio.com or you can call us anytime at
301-661-1858. We're looking forward to building a PetLife
Photo Book for you!
